The Shun Elite 9" Bread Knife (Multi-Purpose Serrated Slicing Knife) is an innovative combination of beautiful aesthetics and unparalleled performance in kitchen cutlery. The knife features a scalloped edges with more of a curve and sharper teeth than traditional scalloped edges resulting in less crumb when cutting through artisanal breads. Handcrafted in Seki City, Japan, the center of the ancient samurai tradition, Shun Elites stunning design is directly inspired by the artful aesthetics of samurai swords, down to the smallest detail such as the wavy pattern along the blade edge known as the "hamon line." Elite series blades are made with of a unique core of SG2, an exotic Japanese powdered steel. The advantage of powdered steel is that every element used to create it is evenly blended, eliminating weak spots and imperfections. The high density and ideal grain structure of the resulting SG-2 allows Shun to temper their steel to and extremely high hardness for an exceedingly sharp, smooth and durable blade. This amazing metal means that Elite knives stay sharp several times longer than comparable stainless cutlery. The knife is then clad with two layers of SUS410 - a softer stainless steel that provides strength, flexibility and corrosion protection. The ambidextrous PakkaWood handle is made by fusing layers of birch with a waterproof resin. The only thing more beautiful than the knife in your kitchen is the way it performs in your hand.
